WASHINGTON, Sept. 4, 2019/ PRNewswire/ - Thirty-eight million American adults-15 percent of the U.S. adult population-are planning to bank on National Football League (NFL) video games this season, according to a new survey by the American Gaming Association (AGA).


The rapid expansion of legal sports betting has offered increased opportunity for millions of Americans to wager safely with a licensed, regulated sportsbook. This year, 7 million Americans state they will bet legally at a gambling establishment sportsbook, 1.2 million more than in 2015, and tens of countless others will position bets with buddies, take part in pools or squares contests or put their bets online.


" During this centennial NFL season, more Americans than ever before can bet on football in safe, well-regulated environments," stated Bill Miller, AGA's president and ceo. "It is clear that as jurisdictions enact policies to offer a legal alternative to the dangerous unlawful market, consumers do the same and seek the protections they deserve."


The survey, performed by Morning Consult, likewise found that nearly one-in-four (24%) American grownups state they would position a bet on the NFL if it was legal in their state. As legal sports betting continues to broaden, fan engagement with NFL video games will see an impact:


- 39 percent of passionate NFL fans plan to put a bet on the NFL this season.

- 75 percent of NFL bettors state they are most likely to watch a game they bet on.

- 28 percent are most likely to attend a video game they have actually banked on.

- 51 percent are most likely to view pregame programs and commentary.

- 63 percent are most likely to gather with good friends or household to see a game.


" Sports wagering plainly effects fans' enthusiasm for engaging with the NFL. Among NFL fans, the New England Patriots are the preferred to win the Super Bowl (23 percent), followed by the Kansas City Chiefs (8 percent), Dallas Cowboys (7 percent) and New Orleans Saints (6 percent).

Thirteen states now offer legal, regulated sports wagering, with 5 more states and the District of Columbia poised to open legal markets in the coming months.

- Last September, an AGA research study showed that the NFL stands to get $2.3 billion every year from legalized sports betting, largely due to increased fan engagement.

- AGA's Sports Betting Consumer Study found sports bettors are more thinking about the NFL than any other expert sports league (93 percent interested).


Methodology
Morning Consult conducted this survey online between Aug. 7-12, 2019 amongst a nationwide sample of 11,001 American adults. The information were weighted to approximate a target sample of adults based upon age, academic achievement, gender, race and region.
